![]() DigiKam seems to check all the boxes as a program that can do anything, but it's a Linux program that says it only has "partial" Windows support. So, do any of you have experience with Digikam.Does anyone have experience using DigiKam as their image organizer in Windows? I am looking for a program that does it all, but I can't afford any of the Adobe options at the moment. Is there a viable setup where I can NOT sync our photos to our desktops (keep them on an UNRAID file share) and Digikam is the primary way they are served up?.Can I save the tagging / other databases in a central file share so that information could be saved across multiple instances of the application on multiple devices? If not, perhaps running it on the server in a VM / docker will be a better option for working with out photos across multiple devices.Does the import from Google Photos feature work as we're trying to emigrate from Google Photos. There are two unknowns I'm still trying to figure out: This seems like such a great piece of software and I'm very strongly considering donating to help support further development. This works for us to help us sort through out massive library as needed (instead of having to organize it all).Īlso include a (rather ugly) map view, timeline view, etc. Much more customizable that Google Photos in that regard and seems accurate so far. After manually completing a few tags it's good to go from there. With only one sample it did a great job of identifying several phases. The best part is that it has facial recognition and tagging. It also apparently saves metadata back to the files for use by other applications. Just reads from the existing files which is wonderful. but it doesn't duplicate the entire library. It does create database files for tags, etc. ![]() ![]() More mature perhaps with a larger community.īoth still looked like they'd be a bit of work to implement.Īn opensource desktop application for viewing, tagging, organizing photos from a library saved elsewhere. It seemed that indexing / importing (couldn't even figure out the difference between these / get indexing to work) could not be set up to run on a schedule (say from a server file share) without scripting and I'm not up to speed on that on UNRAID yet. It looked great, but also a little rough around the edges. Tagging should be mostly automated and we'll put some time into creating albums as we feel like it. We don't intend to spend a lot of time managing the library. My partner and I have gotten use to Google Photos taking care to tagging and facial recognition automatically. What is lacking is a way to explore the photos (sort, tag, search, etc.). NextCloud backup from Android app to server works great for this. I think it's important to me to keep a regular copy of all the photos somewhere (rather than bundled up in a database where I could loose them if something went wrong). I've recently set up a home server with UNRAID, currently running Plex and NextCloud w/ MariaBD) and am looking for a good photos solution. I've been going down the rabbit hole of self-hosted photo library solutions. r/HomeNetworking - Simpler networking advice. r/pfsense - for all things pfsense ('nix firewall) Might be able to find things useful for a lab. r/hardwareswap - Used hardware, swap hardware. r/buildapcsales - For sales on building a PC r/linux - All flavors of Linux discussion & news - not for the faint of heart!
